The Very Bad Day

io9 has a regular feature they call Concept Art Writing Prompts. They post a piece of art and invite readers to submit stories based upon the illustration. I've started writing short—often aiming for very, very short—stories as a warm-up to my real writing. 

This one was based on a piece by John Brosio.

The Very Bad Day 

It was his own fault. 

He'd been the one dumb enough to slam the stack of overdue and uncollated TPS reports down on his desk, knocking over his mug, still half-full with hours-old coffee, and yell, "How could this day possibly get any worse?"
