io9 has a regular feature they call Concept Art Writing Prompts. They post a piece of art and invite readers to submit stories based upon the illustration. I've started writing (very) short stories as a warm-up to my real writing. This one is based on a piece by Francis Livingston.
Hi, Tide
Time is money. As a young but rapidly rising executive in midtown Manhattan, Alexandra believed that whole-heartedly. But when pressed as to why, then, she consistently walked blocks out of her way to catch the subway at Grand Central when there were several stops far more convenient, she could never offer more than a helpless shrug and the incomprehensible (to her coworkers) explanation, "I really like the ambience."
